Press Release – Matthias Grolier appointed as Chief Executive Officer of France Muséums

Upon the recommendation of the Minister of Culture and the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the France Muséums Board has appointed Matthias Grolier as Chief Executive Officer for a three-year term effective immediately.

Matthias Grolier succeeds Hervé Barbaret, who served as Chief Executive Officer of France Muséums since 2019. Since 2021, he has held the position of Chief of Staff to the President-Director of the Musée du Louvre.

BIOGRAPHY

Matthias Grolier is a graduate of Panthéon-Assas University and HEC Paris. A lawyer at the Paris Bar for 13 years, he specialized in national and international transactions. As a partner at the law firm Gide, Matthias Grolier joined the office of the Minister of Culture in October 2018 as an advisor responsible for international affairs. In this role, he worked on key issues such as the restitution of cultural property, France’s influence policy, the international strategy of its cultural operators, challenges in the book industry, and the Cité internationale de la langue française project.

In July 2020, Matthias Grolier was appointed Deputy Chief of Staff to the Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade and Economic Attractiveness (Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs), where he oversaw bilateral economic relations. In October 2021, he joined the Musée du Louvre as Chief of Staff to the President-Director.
